Domestic Abuse

Hosted by City of York Safeguarding Children Partnership and City of York Safeguarding Adults Board, this session will provide an overview of domestic abuse, including the different forms it can take, and the signs professionals may notice when someone is experiencing abuse.

It will also explore the experiences of people with learning disabilities, considering additional vulnerabilities and some of the barriers individuals may face when accessing domestic abuse support.

Operation Choice - drugs early intervention and prevention

Hosted by North Yorkshire Police. Operation Choice is a process designed for referring Children and Young People (C&YP) in North Yorkshire (NY), who are found in possession of drugs, into a course of police led educational sessions.

In addition, further consideration will be given to referrals into drug service providers and commissioned diversion services. The emphasis being on education and harm reduction.

The overall aim of Operation Choice is to refer individuals to a drugs diversionary scheme in lieu of traditional criminal justice disposals. Any referral is set to take place outside of custody.

Times: 12.30pm to 1.15pm.

Safeguarding Week: No Recourse, No Safety

No Recourse, No Safety: Understanding Immigration Status, No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) and Safeguarding Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Victim-Survivors of Abuse.

Hosted by Halo Project Charity. By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • understand how immigration status and No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) can increase vulnerability and be used as a tool of abuse and coercive control
  • recognise the barriers BME victim-survivors with insecure immigration status may face when seeking safety and support
  • identify key safeguarding risks linked to immigration insecurity, destitution, isolation, and fear of authorities

Findings from City of York self-neglect Safeguarding Adults Review (SAR) related to hoarding

Hosted by City of York Safeguarding Adults Board. An overview of recent findings from a thematic Self-neglect safeguarding adults review published in January 2026.

This will include information about how to recognise hoarding behaviour in adults and ideas on responding to adults who self-neglect. A brief look into progress on implementing recommendations from the SAR.

Safeguarding in Movement, Activity and Sport

Hosted by North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children’s Partnership, this session will introduce the Sport Welfare Officer Network - free support for clubs and organisations.

With the objective being to increase understanding of how safeguarding is different in the movement, activity and sport sector, how to overcome that challenge and to make people aware of the support available.
